I downloaded Ensemble Stars!! Music two times with an open mind but I truly do not understand why people love this game.
The graphics are just... It's sad to look at. If you're going to read my other opinions on other games you will probably see I wrote how bad BanG! Dream models where. Well, now I think that those models are worse. Its sad because they don't even try to make the models smooth movements.
But I'm just talking about the 2D models, when it comes to 3D models they are really smooth, sweet and cute! The same goes to the chibi 2D models.
Sound is one if not the only thing great about this game. Although the song don't have as much difference as, for example, BanG Dream or Black Star, they are really nice to listen to.
There is little voice acting though, and with the models it looks, like I said, really sad.
I don't have a lot of things to say about the gameplay, it's the usual rhythm thing but you can have fun with the chibis too. (Although, it gets boring really quick. )
I will admit, I didn't read any of the stories. But from what I heard there is a trans character in this game, (Correct me if I'm wrong. ) and it touches a lot of subjects as gender norms and abuse as a whole. I think it's very brave that they give such serious topics a chance and this is one of the reasons why I think it's good that Enstars is popular.
Now value, I usually don't think spending any money on games, especially rhythm ones is worth it. I personally don't like the art, and did not have any special connections with the characters, so maybe I don't understand something. For me personally both times the gacha was pretty bad, especially with the fact that getting diamonds is hard. (Ones again correct me of I'm wrong.)
Overall, I think for a quite old game it can be better and improve much more. Like the 2D models or maybe even voice acting, although I think it's better to start from the first one.
Edit: This is an answer to every comment, since my answer is generally the same. I was quite nervous when posting this citique because the fandom is huge and I didn't knew how y'all will react to it. I will say that I'm really happy that we agree on quite a lot of things, and I should definitely read some of the stories.

Right now, it's extremely difficult to get gems, it takes way too many points to actually be able to get the event cards, and from what I've seen so far, why is it that 10 BP is the max? I'm hoping that's not the case, but if it is.. YIKES! But like... The story is very intriguing, although some of the characters are somewhat questionable.. *COUGH* EICHI *COUGH* It's very similar to LL and iM@S with the gameplay aspect, and it's quite fun trying to FC the songs. I don't have much experience with the expert mode right now, but the hard difficulty is doable.
