I'm not a very big Trials saga fan, but I did play most of the PSP games and I did enjoy them. That was the only reason why I decided to give this mobile game a try. That does not have a nice ring to it, but let me give more in depth details on how I feel about this game after putting in a couple of hours.
The game has an anime style art work and cutscenes throughout your progression. Compared to many competitive gacha games nowadays, this is not really sought after by many mobile gamers nowadays, unless you are the fan of the IP or the game genre.
The story is sadly mediocre. The storyline is a new experience, but the execution is lacking. I tried to keep track of the dialogue and watched a few cutscenes, but I just felt it lifeless and a little out of place. I tried to like the new faces and npcs but I just cannot seem to stay interested and instead tried to aim for familiar faces from the gacha summons, which is the next topic.
The gacha rates seem good compared to other games out there with the highest SSR rank having a 5% chance. What I am disappointed about is that there is an infinote banner that requires you to pay to get the units from the multi you are happy with. Why? I have seen a few games follow this formula, but it really is a bad launching method especially for new players and fans of the Trials games. Unless you have money with no risks, then pay al you want. I just feel $20+ is too much for just a single multi even if you are garuanteed an SSR.
My favorite so far is the battle system. You have a prep menu before fights to place up to five units and you can choose before hand which unit attacks which enemy. Even during the fight you can choose who to attack, or let your characters attack at random. Skills are done automatically, while Specials require you to press the character icon. There are also speed up and auto features which is always a plus for me. I admit there are a lot lacking in the battle mechanics, but for me I am satisfied with it.
Character models are decent. They remind me of PSP or PC Jrpg graphics from 2010 to 2015-ish. It is not thr best, but it is pleasing enough. The character artworks are well made giving that Trials feel. The menus are a little cluttered, but after a few tinkering around you will get used to the interface. There is also a world map you can roam around which has some events like rewards and fights act like side quests to keep you busy.
Is it f2p friendly? Sadly, in general I have to say no, but personally I will say yes. No, because if you really have no idea about this IP or decide to make this your main game then I advice you to not play the game. Though, if you know what your diving into and you are okay with slow progression and just want to casually experience what the game has to offer then please do play the game and enjoy what it has to offer.
Since the game just launched, there are many rewards like SSR units, resources and assets for your profile, so on. Lastly, I have no hate for the game, I will still be playing it for a while, but knowing how difficult it is for a f2p to progress I might leave the game eventually. In the end of the day, the choice is up to you 💯
LONG, 2 to 5min FORCED, tutorial. Have a slim chance to get a SSR.
rerolling takes forvever as well. i dont see this game surviving long, i dont think the JP server is even active anymore.
